What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is ranked as holistic and alternative medicine. It uses numerous herbs and plants which have therapeutic properties. It is being used during relaxation and healing treatments.
The art of Aromatherapy is practiced from the ancient times in different places all over the world. It was used particularly in Egypt, China, India and Greece. Egyptians were well known for theirs skin care and embalming deceased, they also burned aromatic herbs and wood to praise gods and build the first distillation machine.
Although the term ‘Aromatherapy’ was first used in 1920’s by the French chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé in a book ‘Aromathérapie: Les Huiles Essentielles, Hormones Végétales’.
The practice of Aromatherapy includes various types of application of essential oils. You can use it while:
- Aromatic Bath.
- Aromatherapy Massage.
- As an adding to cremes, lotions.
- Aromatic Compresses.
- Steam inhalation.
- Direct inhalation.
- Inhalation with aroma lamp, perfume lantern, scented candle, electrical diffuser or inhaler tube.
- Sniffing soaked cotton ball or piece of cloth.
Aromatherapy may boost healing and aid relaxation in many ways, for example:
- Boosts the Immune System.
- Boosts the Circulation System.
- Relieves pain.
- Reduces Stress.
- Reduces Fatigue.
- Helps fight insomnia.
